In 1944, a Nazi spy ring targets a revolutionary chemical formula that could boost the power of gasoline for U.S. Army aviation. Two American chemical companies, each holding half of the formula for security, race against time. The spies obtain one half and zero in on chemists Robert Norton or Tom Fielding, who possess the remaining information. Linda Pavlo, a gang member, lures Fielding into a trap, and the spies threaten his sister Nancy and mother to force him to reveal the formula. To safeguard his friend and fiancé Nancy, Fielding's colleague Norton steps in, claiming to know the secret, and boards the Dawn Express plane with the spy leader and his gang.
