Turin (Italy), 1940. - Massimo, 20 years old, has a passion for jazz music and is a good pianist. It secretly follows the musical groups performing under false titles the American songs forbidden by the Regime. After a strong quarrel with his father he meets Alberto Molaien - pianist of the band of Gio 'Cervi, Italian jazz star - and begins to study music with him. But one night the boy is taken from the black shirts and is brought in a prison run by the fascists. During his imprisonment, through three long years, Massimo grows as a person and as a musician, always trying to get closer to Gio 'Cervi, who’s far from the others in his creation: in his cell Massimo composes several songs. The only way to stay alive is, for the jazz group and consequently for Massimo, to think and talk only about music, day and night.
