Durante años, la historia de estas tres mujeres quedó en el olvido, a pesar de que su trabajo en la NASA fue clave para la carrera espacial. Por fin, Figuras Ocultas pone en el lugar que merecen a estas tres mujeres, y lo hace con acierto: sin dramatizar en exceso ni forzar la emoción, dejando que la historia hable por sí sola. Sabe cómo emocionarnos en el momento justo, y así nos deja que el humor y la energía fluyan de una forma mas natural, y así, el mensaje cala, sin sentirlo impuesto. Gran parte del mérito recae en el trío protagonista: Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer y Janelle Monáe. Su química es impecable y cada una aporta a su personaje una personalidad única, lo que hace que la historia cobre vida. Aunque sigue la estructura clásica de los biopics, el ritmo es ágil, los diálogos suenan naturales y la combinación entre drama y momentos más ligeros la hacen más fresca y entretenida.
