(CASTELLANO) Embestida me ha parecido una película entretenida, que ya es bastante para una propuesta de este tipo. Lo de mezclar catástrofes con tiburones tiene gancho casi por definición, porque son dos miedos muy directos y muy visuales, y aquí se nota que la película sabe perfectamente cuál es su baza. No estamos ante una maravilla ni ante una gran película del género, pero sí ante un producto que por lo menos intenta exprimir bien su premisa y no aburrir. Lo mejor es que entra rápido en materia y entiende que su principal obligación es mantener la tensión y el movimiento. No se pone demasiado solemne ni finge ser más de lo que es. Sabe que juega en un terreno de serie B con presupuesto más o menos apañado, situaciones límite y un punto de exageración inevitable, y en vez de pelearse con eso lo abraza. Ahí es donde funciona mejor, porque cuando una película así acepta su propia naturaleza, suele salir ganando. También ayuda bastante que esté Phoebe Dynevor al frente. Tiene presencia, aguanta bien el peso de la historia y consigue darle un poco más de seriedad emocional a una trama que, en otras manos, podría quedarse en puro disparate. No convierte la película en algo profundo, claro, pero sí le da el mínimo de implicación humana que hace falta para que no todo sea simplemente agua, gritos y colmillos. Eso sí, tampoco hay que engañarse: la historia tiene limitaciones claras. Hay decisiones absurdas, cosas poco creíbles y momentos en los que la película depende más de la energía del conjunto que de una escritura especialmente fina. A ratos se nota el artificio, y no llega a ser todo lo salvaje o loca que podría haber sido. Tiene una buena idea comercial, pero no siempre la lleva hasta el extremo más divertido o más memorable. Aun así, se deja ver bien. Tiene ritmo, tiene una premisa agradecida y sabe jugar con la angustia del espacio inundado, el peligro que no ves venir y esa sensación de encierro cada vez más desesperada. No reinventa nada, pero tampoco hace falta para pasar un buen rato con una película de supervivencia pensada sobre todo para entretener. Al final, Embestida me parece eso: una película resultona, simpática dentro de su locura y suficientemente eficaz como para que merezca la pena si te atrae la mezcla de desastre y tiburones. No es una joya del género, pero cumple, entretiene y tiene a una protagonista que ayuda mucho a que todo aguante mejor. (ENGLISH) Thrash struck me as an entertaining film, and that already counts for a lot with this kind of material. Mixing catastrophe cinema with sharks is an appealing idea almost by definition, because both are very direct and very visual fears, and the movie clearly knows that this is its main strength. This is not a masterpiece, nor a major entry in the genre, but it is at least a film that tries to make good use of its premise and avoid becoming boring. What works best is that it gets moving quickly and understands that its main job is to keep tension and momentum alive. It does not become overly solemn or pretend to be more than it is. It knows it is operating in B-movie territory, with a decent budget, extreme situations, and an inevitable streak of exaggeration, and instead of fighting that, it embraces it. That is where it works best, because when a film like this accepts its own nature, it usually benefits from it. It also helps that Phoebe Dynevor is at the center of it. She has screen presence, handles the weight of the story well, and gives the film a little more emotional seriousness than the material might otherwise have had. She does not turn it into something deep, of course, but she does bring the minimum human involvement needed so that it does not become just water, screaming, and teeth. That said, there is no point pretending the film does not have obvious limitations. There are absurd decisions, implausible moments, and stretches where the movie depends more on overall energy than on especially sharp writing. At times the artificiality is very noticeable, and it never becomes quite as wild or crazed as it could have been. It has a strong commercial premise, but it does not always push it to its most fun or memorable extreme. Even so, it is easy to watch. It has pace, it has an effective setup, and it knows how to play with the anxiety of a flooded space, the danger you cannot fully see coming, and that increasingly desperate sense of confinement. It does not reinvent anything, but it does not need to in order to provide a good time as a survival thriller mainly designed to entertain. In the end, Thrash feels to me like a solid little film, enjoyable within its own absurdity, and effective enough to be worth a look if the combination of disaster and sharks appeals to you. It is not a jewel of the genre, but it works, it entertains, and it has a lead performance that helps the whole thing hold together.
