(CASTELLANO) Me ha gustado mucho. Tiene algo casi teatral, porque en realidad estamos viendo casi todo el tiempo al protagonista en su puesto del servicio de emergencias, recibiendo llamadas, reaccionando, sudando, agobiándose y dejando que todo pase a través de su voz, su cara y lo que imaginas al otro lado del teléfono. Y, aun así, funciona de verdad. Lo mejor es precisamente eso: cómo consigue ser tan entretenida con tan poco. La película va abriendo poco a poco la historia, no solo del caso principal, sino también del propio personaje, y te va metiendo en una espiral de tensión bastante eficaz. Empiezas viendo una noche complicada de trabajo y acabas atrapado en algo bastante más turbio y personal. Jake Gyllenhaal sostiene la película casi él solo, y además lo hace muy bien. Está en pantalla prácticamente todo el tiempo, así que si él fallara, la película se vendría abajo. Pero no pasa. Consigue transmitir ansiedad, rabia, culpa y desesperación sin necesidad de grandes artificios. Todo depende mucho de él, y responde de sobra. También me gusta que la película sepa jugar con lo que no vemos. Todo entra por las llamadas, por los silencios, por lo que alguien cuenta o deja de contar, y eso obliga al espectador a reconstruir el puzzle constantemente. Tiene esa virtud de las historias sencillas bien planteadas: te engancha con muy pocos elementos y no necesita mucho más. Es verdad que en algunos momentos se nota el mecanismo, y que hay giros o explicaciones que pueden parecer algo más subrayados de la cuenta. Pero, incluso así, la tensión aguanta bastante bien y el conjunto nunca se cae. Puede que no reinvente nada, pero está muy bien montada para mantenerte pendiente de cada llamada. En conjunto, me ha parecido una película muy entretenida, intensa y muy bien sostenida por su protagonista. Ese formato cerrado, casi de obra de teatro filmada, le sienta muy bien, y hace que todo dependa de la interpretación, del ritmo y del suspense. Y ahí cumple de sobra. (ENGLISH) I liked it a lot. It has something almost theatrical about it, because for most of the running time we are basically watching the protagonist at his emergency dispatch desk, taking calls, reacting, sweating, spiraling, and letting everything happen through his voice, his face, and whatever you imagine on the other end of the line. And even so, it really works. That is exactly its greatest strength: how entertaining it manages to be with so little. The film gradually opens up not only the main case, but also the character himself, and pulls you into a spiral of tension that is very effective. You begin with what seems like a difficult shift at work and end up trapped in something much murkier and more personal. Jake Gyllenhaal carries the film almost entirely by himself, and he does it very well. He is on screen practically the whole time, so if he failed, the whole thing would collapse. But it doesn’t. He conveys anxiety, anger, guilt, and desperation without needing any major tricks. The film depends heavily on him, and he absolutely delivers. I also like the way the film plays with what we never see. Everything comes through the calls, the silences, and what people say or refuse to say, and that forces the viewer to keep rebuilding the puzzle. It has that virtue of well-constructed simple stories: it hooks you with very few elements and doesn’t need much else. It is true that at certain points you can feel the mechanism underneath, and that some twists or explanations may feel a little too underlined. Even so, the tension holds up very well and the whole thing never falls apart. It may not reinvent anything, but it is very well designed to keep you focused on every single call. Overall, I found it to be a very entertaining, intense film, held together extremely well by its lead. That enclosed format, almost like a filmed stage play, suits it perfectly and makes everything depend on performance, rhythm, and suspense. And in those areas, it absolutely works.
