One of the most intriguing productions in recent years premiered in 2002. Ladislav Smoček adapted and directed the Italian playwright Luigi Chiarelli's grotesque comedy "Maska a tvář". Under his guidance, this play filled with captivating themes of love triangles, truth and appearance, life and death, came to life at the Činoherní klub theater. Starring Ondřej Vetchý, Ivana Chýlková, and Petr Nárožný in lead roles. Luigi Chiarelli (1880-1947), an Italian playwright, theater manager, critic, and long-time president of the Italian playwrights' syndicate, rarely appears on Czech stages. When he does, it's usually with his most famous play, "Maska a tvář", first performed in 1916. It was first staged in the Czech Republic in 1922 at Divadlo na Vinohradech. Post-war, it was performed only three more times: at Divadlo Disk, Divadlo Petra Bezruče in Ostrava, and Západočeské divadlo in Cheb. Smoček's production is the fourth.
