Mrs. Janatová had an unhappy romance with a painter in her youth, leaving her hostile towards all artists. However, her daughter Vlasta has fallen in love with the painter Hodura. Despite his success and steady income, how can she explain to her mother that he's not just a reckless rogue? Vlasta's friend decides to help, introducing Hodura as her personal doctor during a visit to the Janatovs. But one lie leads to another, ensuring plenty of tangled situations.
