Vanni Bandinelli, a renowned Florentine craftsman, runs a workshop passed down through generations. Though unparalleled as a carpenter and restorer, he's made mistakes as a father. Two months after his son Lorenzo's mysterious death, following his recovery from drug addiction and employment at a group home, Vanni finds himself mentoring five troubled youth. Lorenzo had started a woodworking workshop called "Unique Pieces" for them, considering each as a unique creation. As Vanni helps these youngsters overcome their past through the therapeutic power of manual labor, he suspects they know more about Lorenzo's death than they let on. Through frequent flashbacks, Vanni gradually uncovers each youngster's personal struggles and unravels the mystery behind his son's murder.
