Based on true events, the story follows Tsuyoshi Yamada, an otaku who saves a beautiful woman from harassment by a drunk man on the Tokyo metro. After the incident, she asks for his address to send him a thank-you gift. Completely smitten, Yamada seeks advice on an internet forum on how to ask her out and confess his feelings. Forum members dub him "Densha Otoko" (Train Man) and enthusiastically support him. The forum's real-life messages gained immense popularity, spawning a film, TV series, manga, and novel, among other adaptations.
