A conflict arises between prominent businessman Sergei Graidov and his long-time business partner Alexander Rubtsov. The bone of contention is the Gur'yanovsky Machine-Building Plant. Rubtsov believes the money-losing enterprise should be shed, while Graidov insists it needs modernization. Unbeknownst to Graidov, Rubtsov's true reason for wanting to dispose of the plant is a family drama that unfolded 25 years ago.
