Set in the mid-19th century, the story follows Carmine Crocco (played by Daniele Liotti), a young man from Rionero in Vulture, Basilicata. After a traumatic childhood incident involving the local nobleman, Count Ludovico Guarino, Crocco enlists in the Bourbon army. Upon returning home, he discovers personal betrayals and injustices, leading him to kill the count's son and become an outlaw.
