In January 1999, Channel 4 aired the six-part mockumentary series "That Peter Kay Thing". Set in Bolton and surrounding areas, the episodes follow the lives of various characters, with Peter Kay playing the lead in each documentary. Narrated by Andrew Sachs, the series showcases Kay's nostalgic humor and unlikable characters. Many storylines are based on real-life events from Kay's life. Six characters from the series also appear in the sequel, "Peter Kay's Phoenix Nights".
