**Wycliffe** is a British TV series based on W. J. Burley's novels, focusing on Detective Superintendent Charles Wycliffe. Produced by HTV and aired on the ITV Network from 24 July 1994 to 5 July 1998, it began with a pilot episode on 7 August 1993. Filmed in Cornwall with a production office in Truro, the series features a BAFTA-winning theme composed by Nigel Hess. Jack Shepherd portrays Wycliffe, assisted by DI Doug Kersey and DI Lucy Lane. Each episode centers around a murder investigation. Early seasons adapt Burley's books, presenting classic whodunits with eccentric characters and plot twists. Later seasons shift towards a more naturalistic tone, exploring police department politics.
