Many years have passed since humanity was driven to the brink of extinction by the sudden emergence of the unknown life forms Gadoll. Those humans that survived now dwell in a 3000m-high mobile fortress Deca-dence built to protect themselves from the Gadoll threat. Denizens of Deca-dence fall into two categories: Gears, warriors who fight the Gadoll daily, and Tankers, those without the skills to fight. One day, Natsume, a Tanker girl who dreams of becoming a Gear meets surly Kaburagi, an armor repairman of Deca-dence. This chance meeting between the seemingly two opposites, the girl with a positive attitude who never gives up on her dreams and the realist who has given up on his, will eventually shake the future course of this world.
In the fortress humans now call home, a girl relegated to repair work wants to be a fighter, but her weary boss has long stopped fighting for anything.

You should give a chance to this great show.
This anime reminds me of some other famous works of fiction, but it somehow manages to be something very original and unique with one bold experimental idea in terms of storytelling. There were so many good ideas other than that, and almost everything was nicely put together and impressively well realized.
I don't think it's a perfect show quite honestly, so I might wanna point out a few issues. One minor issue I have is that the last episode felt a bit too rushed in my opinion. I still believe it could be so much better if it had just one more episode to wrap itself up. In addition, I have one major complaint about an action sequence in the episode 8. I don't spoil anything, but that part kind of felt like a rip-off of a famous Pixar movie "Monsters, Inc.", and it didn't really work for me quite honestly.
However, the pros are so good that it almost make up the cons. The two lead main characters are interesting and fun to watch, and both of them have really good character arcs. The world-building is also super interesting. And most of all, the animation is pretty fantastic. Even when the 3d cgi creatures appear, they don't feel like out of place in 2d animation and look actually pretty cool.
It's hard for me to write down everything I love about this show, but anyway, I highly recommend to watch this brilliantly executed piece of fiction. It might not be for everyone. I actually watched more than 5 times at this point, and I'm sure that once it hold your attention, it never let you go from the start to the end.
