The murder of Zhang, a secretary-in-the-know regarding the Donggang Stock case, sends shockwaves through the political landscape. Detective Xu Rainlin (played by Guo Xiaodong) is called in to investigate. As he digs deeper, he uncovers a trail leading straight to the highest echelons of power. Meanwhile, Donggang case whistleblower, Lao Hongyu (played by Yan Shujun), finds herself in the employ of the enigmatic Feng Xianglong (played by Cao Li) at the Nine Skies Corporation. Under the guise of a lowly warehouse worker, she secretly gathers evidence of Feng's embezzlement of state assets. Her daring move to expose him, however, lands her in a deadly confrontation. Saved at the nick of time by Dr. Su, Lao Hongyu decides to take her fight to the capital. Xu Rainlin's feelings for Ding Jie (played by Cao Ying) grow, but so do his suspicions about Vice Mayor Zhou Min (played by He Zhengjun). As the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection steps in to investigate, Feng Xianglong is arrested, but the slippery Zhou Min seems set to evade justice by fleeing abroad. Time is running out for Xu Rainlin to gather irrefutable evidence... **Conclusion** 'The Insider' is a stark reminder of the insidious nature of corruption and the courage it takes to stand against it.
