In 1936 Paris, exiled Russian general Fiodor works at the Tsarist forces' headquarters but secretly sympathizes with his communist neighbors. His Greek wife, Arsinoé, an artist, stays clear of politics. Fiodor, however, can't resist his urge to spy, aligning himself with various factions. His loyalties become unclear, even to himself. Arsinoé, who loves him deeply, starts to question his allegiances. When Fiodor's superior is kidnapped, it's already too late. The man who believed he could outmaneuver everyone falls victim to his own delusion of control. Meanwhile, Arsinoé, who tried to remain outside of history, is horrifyingly drawn into it.
