Nine volunteers embark on a challenging mission, digging a tunnel through treacherous mountain terrain. The team comprises three miners, joined by others from across the country, each with their own motivations. As winter sets in, a fierce blizzard renders the roads impassable, halting the delivery of crucial supplies. With just a hundred meters left to dig, the tunnel collapses. The group abandons the site, all except Damjan, a communist among them. They return to the nearby town, expecting to start work at the mine in two days. Over these two days, each volunteer grapples with guilt for leaving the tunnel, ultimately leading them to reunite with Damjan and resume their mission, despite the formidable obstacles.
