Georg Hermes, a reclusive philosopher, retreats from the world to immerse himself in his studies, particularly the works of Heraclitus, following his mother's passing. He crosses paths with the sisters Franziska, Breate, and Marthe, who own a boutique and share a house, each with a romantic partner. They invite him to dinner, with Franziska showing particular interest. After a boating accident, Georg and Franziska grow closer, eventually becoming lovers. The sisters welcome Georg into their home, indulging him and even suggesting a polygamous relationship.
