At the dawn of World War I, in a Picardy village, four inseparable friends—Lucas, Luigi, Lucien, and Ludwig—form the Lulus gang. These orphans always stick together, whether facing off against rival gang leader Octave or evading the watchful eye of Father Turpin. When the orphanage at Valencourt Abbey is suddenly evacuated, the Lulus are left behind, stranded behind enemy lines. Joined by Luce, a young girl separated from her parents, they embark on a perilous journey to Switzerland, the "country that never goes to war." Naive and innocent, they're thrust into a world they're wholly unprepared for.
