Marino Marini, a successful cosmetics industrialist in his forties, enjoys a happy life balancing his hobby, his wife Laura, their eight-year-old son, and his two mistresses. One day, while at his office, he receives a call from his doctor, who has performed some tests on his behalf for an insurance company. The results are unusual, and Marino, fearing the worst, rushes to the clinic. The doctor, reassured by further tests and a diagnosis from a German scientist named Mayer, breaks the news to Marino: he is transitioning gender.
