Tatsuji Miyoshi, a devoted student of Sakutarō Hagiwara, harbors deep feelings for Sakutarō's younger sister, Keiko. However, Keiko rebuffs Tatsuji's affections. Years later, amidst the chaos of the Pacific War, Tatsuji learns that Keiko is widowed. He divorces his wife, leaves his children, and marries Keiko. They embark on a peaceful honeymoon in Echizen Mikuni, but their differing personalities soon become apparent, with Tatsuji struggling to keep up with Keiko's more uninhibited nature.
