
In 2019, artist JR gained unprecedented access to California's notorious Tehachapi prison, where some inmates serve life sentences for crimes committed as minors. Despite comprising only 4.2% of the world's population, the U.S. houses 20% of its prisoners. JR's project, a mural featuring the inmates' portraits and stories, challenges perceptions of the penal system and conveys a message of hope and redemption.
