The story follows a group of samurai, led by Igo Gyobu (Ken Ogata), as they strive to protect the Shogun's heir from his own father, Iemitsu. Driven by madness and eccentricity, Iemitsu seeks his son's death, deeming him too weak for succession. To eliminate him, despite his powerful guardians, they must lure him into a trap during his journey to Edo.
