
In 1910, in a small Japanese village, "The Wayside Pebble" tells the story of Goichi, a boy yearning for an education but hindered by his family's poverty. Despite a friend's offer to help, his stern, unyielding father refuses, instead sending Goichi to work as an indentured servant for a harsh merchant. As Goichi's hardships mount, he seeks a way to escape his dire circumstances.
