A young widow, Fan Ruhua, poses as the daughter of a wealthy businessman to attract potential husbands through newspaper ads. Meanwhile, Yang Xiaomao, a humble barber, pretends to be a wealthy suitor to woo a rich family's daughter, helping a struggling businessman along the way. A series of comedic mix-ups ensues before Yang and Fan abandon their deceptions and embrace honest lives.
