Shinichi, once a promising young novelist, has been struggling for years and recently ended his relationship, leaving him in a rut. When his friend's ex-wife, Yuko, and her son move in, Shinichi allows them to stay. While he spends his nights writing, Yuko goes out, torn between her duty as a parent and her loneliness. Yuko's son, missing his father, begins to idolize Shinichi. Despite their efforts to keep their distance, one night changes everything. Based on the short story "Yoru, Toritachi ga Naku".
