In the early years of Soviet rule, in a remote village, young rural Komsomol activists use wall newspapers and other forms of mass agitation to educate the villagers. However, the villagers still turn to the cunning miller, Kudymich, for their troubles, as he practices sorcery. Red Army soldier Fyodor Rubakin, home on leave, assists the youth in exposing the sorcerer and bringing him to justice.
