In the world of sports, this story follows a group of young runners and their coach, exploring their relationship with the sport where training is key, but without talent, it's just plain drudgery. Once a successful coach, Vyskočil has been struggling lately, a fact he's painfully aware of, especially since his own son Roman is his latest unsuccessful runner. Frustration leads him to consider resignation, but just in time, an exceptionally talented runner, Jaroslav Matějka, joins the team. Vyskočil focuses all his efforts on preparing the young man.
