In Kuban, a veterinarian named Mitrich, secretly working for yesaul Soroka, plots to sabotage the leading horse breeding collective farm by destroying its entire herd. However, the conspirators are apprehended in time, and by autumn, the collective farm sends off young Cossacks to join the Red Army.
