Los Angeles detective Dooly (James Belushi) still works with Jerry Lee, a nearly ten-year-old German Shepherd, but Jerry Lee isn't as young as he used to be. Dooly's superiors suggest it might be time to retire the dog, but Dooly isn't keen on the idea, as Jerry Lee has become one of his closest friends over the years. However, when Jerry Lee can't keep up with a shooter during a gunfight, Dooly gains two new companions: a young Doberman, Zeus, and his new trainer.
