In the height of the Cold War, American Air Force pilot Jim Shannon (John Wayne) is tasked with escorting a Soviet pilot, Natasha (Janet Leigh), who claims to want to defect. After falling in love and marrying the alluring Natasha, Shannon learns from his superiors that she is a spy, sent to steal military secrets. To save his wife from imprisonment and deportation, Shannon devises a daring plan in this 1957 drama.
