In the town of Tenryū, a student from Tokyo, Wood (Takeda), and his friends, Long (Nagata) and Wild (Ōmura), arrive for a holiday, eager to experience the Tenryū River descent. Meanwhile, Photina (Kawasaki), a local geisha, has been supporting herself and her father since his business failed. Now a renowned courtesan, she catches Wood's eye at a gathering with a wealthy local, Mr. New (Arie). That night, Mr. New summons Photina to his quarters, but his advances are interrupted by a commotion involving Wood and his friends at their shared inn.
