Mary Gilbert, an elderly woman, rings the bell of an elegant mansion. A young caretaker named Joe answers the door. Mary explains that she is a former society columnist and that this house has been very significant in her life. He agrees to let her in. As they walk through the rooms, Mary tells the young man about the many lavish parties held in this grand house during the 1950s and 1960s. At that time, Mary, a young journalist, would mingle with high society at these events. It was at one of these prestigious parties that her attention was drawn to Greville White, a mysterious and charming up-and-comer.
