In the 1930s, Leka Khrapova moves from a provincial town to Moscow. Instead of following her mother's wishes and enrolling in law school, she pursues acting. During her studies, she becomes captivated by a charismatic astronomer and a sensualist from the observatory, but ultimately marries a quiet and dependable documentary cameraman. Leka leaves her husband twice, only to return each time, until one day, she doesn't.
