In the 1940s, to escape forced labor in Korea, Chil-min (Lim Sung-min) flees to Japan and stays with ornithologist Yo-mura (Park Young-gyu) and his wife, Hideko (Kim Gu-mi). Hideko, drawn to Chil-min, receives a visit from her younger sister, Mo-mo-e (Jin Hee-jin), who's on vacation. When Yo-mura leaves for Seoul and their son gets injured, Hideko steps out, leaving Mo-mo-e alone with Chil-min. Mo-mo-e tries to seduce him during a walk, but Chil-min rejects her and buries her under a tree. Hideko witnesses this but, knowing her sister's ways, understands Chil-min's actions. The two walk along the beach at sunset, when Yo-mura returns, sees them, and shoots Chil-min in the shoulder and leg. He then draws a knife, and Hideko shakes her head.
