Abe, a 12-year-old boy living in Brooklyn, grapples with the challenge of uniting his family, torn apart by their Palestinian and Israeli roots. Passionate about cooking, Abe discovers a potential solution while exploring New York's food scene: he meets Chico Catuaba, a Brazilian chef who blends global flavors at a food fair. Secretly apprenticing under Chico, Abe dives into the world of fusion cuisine, hoping that the perfect recipe might finally bridge the divides and conflicts that plague his family dinners.
All in all, 'Abe' is still a very sweet exploration of what it means to grow up amongst a culture clash. What it lacks in weight, it makes up for in charm and great looking food. Aimed predominately at a younger audience, there is plenty for them to sink their teeth into and hopefully learn from, but for a more mature viewing experience, there just isn't enough meat to turn this meal into a banquet.
