In the period surrounding the 1927 "August 7" meeting of the Chinese Communist Party's Political Bureau, pioneers like Mao Zedong and Zhu De actively explored and practiced the establishment of a people's army. Following the successful Nanchang Uprising on August 1, 1927, the troops moved south to Guangdong, where they encountered resistance from reactionary forces in the Chaoshan region.
