**Summer of 1943, in the county of Wu Nan, under the jurisdiction of the Shaan-Gan-Ning Border Region in the Taihang Mountains, Japanese forces were heavily stationed to plunder iron ore and timber resources, and to construct roads. Eight Route Army, 2nd Division, 2nd Brigade, 2nd District, 2nd Company, Captain Yang Shugeng, along with several soldiers, escaped from the Black Wind Ridge road construction site and were pursued by Major Matsumoto and his guards all the way to Qing Shi Cave Village, coincidentally arriving on the day of villager Du Tiehua's wedding. Matsumoto ordered a massacre, resulting in the deaths of most villagers and captives. The surviving villagers, led by Tiehua's son, Da Xi, vowed revenge and set out to rescue his sister, who had been taken as a comfort woman. Yang accompanied and protected Da Xi to the county seat, where they met the surviving Tiehua. With the help of anti-Japanese officer Xiong Chaolai and youth Wang Jinxiu, they planned to rescue the women from the comfort station. Yang, Da Xi, and Xiong also freed Captain Xiang Kai of the National Army's artillery regiment and several soldiers, and together they formed the Taihang Anti-Japanese Brigade, inflicting heavy losses on the invaders. Meanwhile, a fierce intelligence war was waged in the city among the Nationalist, Communist, and Japanese intelligence organizations, vying for control of the brigade. Despite their differences, Yang and Xiang remained united in their common goal of resisting the Japanese.**
