**Red Sorghum** is the final film by Xie Jin, composed of four short stories. "The Awakening of a Peasant" depicts the villagers' refusal to evacuate due to a collaborator's lies, leading to their brutal fate and sparking a desire for revenge that fuels their joining the anti-Japanese guerrilla forces. "The Death of an Old Clerk" portrays an elderly clerk who refuses to join the "Maintenance Committee" and instead poisons himself and a Japanese officer, urging his children to participate in the war effort. "Love in Wartime" follows three young intellectuals from Shanghai as they relocate to the interior and navigate different paths in life. "The Guerrilla Girl" tells the story of a recently enlisted female student who bravely completes a mission to sabotage the enemy's transportation lines.
