"Doraemon" is a Japanese manga series by Fujiko F. Fujio, featuring a robotic cat from the 22nd century who travels back in time to help his friend Nobita. The manga, which addresses societal issues of its time, ran from 1969 to 1996, spanning 45 volumes. It was adapted into an anime series by Japan Television in 1973, but was cut short due to the company's closure. Asahi Television later picked up the series in 1979 and continues to air it today, releasing a new animated film annually (except for 2005 and 2020-2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic).
